MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

To All BSC Families:

Re:       Changes for the 2007-08 Season

I want to briefly inform you of some changes for the 2007-08 season.  First, all of you should have in your child’s file the swimmer’s contract for the upcoming short course season.  You will notice that there is a modest change in dues.  The dues for the Red, Blue and Bronze groups increased $5 per month, and the dues for the Silver and Gold groups increased by $10 per month.

Although the change to pool passes (vs. pool rental) significantly improved the Club’s financial picture, current dues are not covering our fixed costs.  As a general rule, our dues need to cover these costs (i.e., salaries and benefits) and fundraisers and sponsorships our variable costs (travel, meet expenses, etc).  This increase in dues will help narrow this gap, however, long term we must increase our fundraising and sponsorship revenue to make up the difference or increase the number of swimmers in our program.

On a more positive note, I’m excited to inform you of upcoming changes to the Club’s website.  Effective this September, we will be changing to a new software platform called TeamUnify (“TU”).  TU will allow us to convert most, if not all, Club processes to an   integrated software/electronic format.  Each family will have a personal account where they can check their current bill, log volunteer hours, manage meet entries, and do a host of other things.  Stay tuned for further information on TU and its many benefits for our Club and Club families.

Beginning in mid-September, WRP Training Studio will be taking control of our dry-land training program for the Gold and Silver group swimmers.  Kyle Will, owner of WRP and other professional, certified instructors from WRP, will be working with these groups two days a week to improve overall core strength and cardio-vascular health.  The Board and coaching staff believe this will be a great addition to the BSC program, and we anticipate great results from the training.

Finally, I want to congratulate the coaching staff and all Club swimmers on a great year.  The Club finished 3rd at both the 11 & Over Short Course Championships and 11 & Over Long Course Championships.  In addition, the Club finished in the top ten at Age Group Sectionals, and sent the most swimmers (10) ever to the Western Zone Championships.  We also saw a noticeable increase of swimmers in our novice program, which is a positive development for the future.

Enjoy the next few weeks off, and I look forward to seeing you in September.

-Dave Souther
